This is exactly what Bethesda did with its Quake remaster announcement.
What is the new enhanced Quake game?
The Quake remaster is exactly what the name suggests - a remaster of the original Quake game from 1996. The remastered version of the classic first-person shooter supports up to 4K resolution, widescreen, and comes with enhanced models, anti-aliasing, dynamic lighting, and depth of field changes. Bethesda also included the original soundtrack from Nine Inch Nails’ frontman Trent Reznor to complete the package. To make sure that no one misses out on all the fun, Quake remaster supports crossplay across all platforms for its 4-player online multiplayer with local split-screen available as well. The game will also support peer-to-peer custom matches and dedicated servers. On top of all of this, the Quake remaster also includes every original expansion pack released for the game. This includes MachineGames’ Dimension of the Past DLC and Dimension of the Machine. The latter is brand-new content specifically designed for the game.
When is the Quake remaster release date?
Perhaps the best part about Bethesda’s announcement at QuakeCon 2021 is that the Quake remaster isn’t just coming soon - the game is out and available right now! For those who are interested, the enhanced version of Quake is available for purchase on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and the Nintendo Switch. Bethesda added that a dedicated PS5 and Xbox Series X version is coming soon with support for 4K resolution and 120 frames per second. If you have Xbox Game Pass then you’ve got twice as much reason to celebrate too, it’s included in your subscription and able to be downloaded instantly.
Is a new Quake game coming?
At this point, a new Quake game would be a bonus. Quake remastered seems to be the “new” Quake game that was teased a couple of days ago. Then again, there’s still id Software’s Project 2021B that remains unannounced, so who knows? Because this year is Quake’s 25th anniversary, Bethesda might still have something else up its sleeve. There’s still a couple of days of QuakeCon 2021 to go, so if there was ever going to be an announcement of the new Quake game, it’s got to happen within the next few days.
