The streaming platform publishes several top 10 lists every Tuesday and the latest version of its Most Popular Films (English) list shows Glass Onion as the 10th most popular English film. The list includes highly popular and successful films like Red Notice, Extraction, and The Irishman. Since its premiere, Glass Onion has accumulated 209.4 million hours viewed, which is just sufficient to kick out the previous entry, The Kissing Booth, with 209.2 million hours. Glass Onion had a limited theatrical release on November 23, 2022, and was available for seven days. During that period, it grossed $15 million across select theaters to be Netflix’s highest-grossing film at the box office. On December 23, 2022, it debuted on the streaming platform and recorded 83.1 million hours of viewership over the weekend. More recently, Glass Onion became Netflix’s most-watched English film for the week from December 26, 2022 until January 1, 2023 after accumulating 127 million hours of viewership. Given that it was the holidays and people would have watched in groups as opposed to individually, Glass Onion’s numbers are nothing short of impressive. By the way, the film’s popularity has resulted in a resurgence for its predecessor. With 16.7 million hours viewed over the week, the 2019 film is currently third on the top 10 list behind Glass Onion and Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical.

Glass Onion is the second installment in the Knives Out series. The film stars former James Bond actor Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc who is invited to a murder mystery party. Unfortunately, what starts as an enjoyable gathering soon takes a turn for the worse with a real murder. Blanc must, with the help of another attendee, unmask the murderer and find answers to a nagging question. Apart from Craig, the film stars Edward Norton, Leslie Odom Jr., Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Janelle Monae, and Kate Hudson. Rian Johnson is contractually obligated to make one more Knives Out film for Netflix. The streaming platform outbid competitors and paid $469 million to secure the rights to the film and tie the director down to two sequels. The third installment is currently in development, although Johnson stated in a recent interview that he’s still figuring out what it will be about.
