Though the former Guardians of the Galaxy director is busy with his new role, he recently took the time to address fans of DC on Twitter. The interaction is something new to DC fans as the former head of DC didn’t really engage audiences in such a manner. Gunn took to Twitter to address the audiences wishing to “#SaveLegendsofTomorrow” and “#ReleaseTheAyerCut.” DC’s Legends of Tomorrow which lasted for seven seasons was recently canceled by The CW network. The Ayer Cut refers to the director’s cut of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. While Gunn did not specifically answer the request from fans, he did share details about the future of the DC Universe in a series of tweets. The co-CEO revealed that the focus is telling the “Biggest Story Ever Told.” “Opened up Twitter at the end of a long, creative weekend to see the many tweets to #SaveLegendsofTomorrow & #ReleaseTheAyerCut & fan support for other DC projects over the years. The majority of these requests were enthusiastic & respectful,” Gunn tweets. “As the new (& first ever) CEOs of DC Studios, Peter & I think it’s important we acknowledge you, the fans, & let you know we hear your different desires for the pathways forward for DC.” He adds, “Although our ability to interact on Twitter has been lessened due to the workload of our new positions, we are listening & open to everything as we embark on this journey, & will continue to do so for the next few years.” The director has been very active on social media in the past and his current absence may be understandable given his new post at DC Studios.
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) November 6, 2022 “But all our initial focus is on the story going forward, hammering out the new DCU, & telling the Biggest Story Ever Told across multiple films, television shows, & animated projects. We invite all of the DC fandoms from across the multiverse — and everyone else as well — into this new universe. We can’t wait to reveal more,” Gunn shares on Twitter. Fans have quickly pointed out Gunn’s mention of the “Biggest Story Ever Told” as it may allude to a series of comics from The Greatest Stories Ever Told, a compilation featuring the most popular characters and story arcs from DC. The capitalization of the “Biggest Story Ever Told” was what got fans curious. The wording may be a subtle easter egg referring to one of the biggest DC compilations. It may also be just another way of saying that DC will now have an overarching plot to its projects similar to what Marvel has done with the MCU. Either way, the future looks bright with both Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm. It will take some time before we get to see the fruits of Gunn’s labor in DC. Fans are excited about what is in store for DC with all the new movies coming up in 2023. Even Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, would line up to see what Gunn comes up with in the DC Universe.
