Boston Strangler finds its Loretta McLaughlin

The Boston Strangler is the name of the murderer behind the gruesome deaths of 13 women that occurred within the area of Boston, Massachusetts back in the 1960s. The murders would go unsolved for several years, even going as far as to inspire the 1964 film, The Strangler. However, in 1964, a certain Albert DeSalvo was caught due to an unrelated crime, before he confessed to the murders himself later on. For several years, there were doubts about DeSalvo’s involvement in the murders. Some believe that he was taking credit for the crimes. Meanwhile, others theorized that the Boston Strangler was not just one man. But, in 2013, DNA evidence linked DeSalvo to the final victim, which finally proved with certainty that he was behind the murders. Keira Knightley will take on the role of Loretta McLaughlin in the Boston Strangler movie. McLaughlin was one-half of the first investigative reporters to break the news of the gruesome killings. She is largely attributed for coining DeSalvo’s now-infamous monicker. Ridley Scott, as well as Margot Robbie, have both joined in as producers. Meanwhile, Matt Ruskin of Crown Heights fame has signed on to write the script and direct the film, which is scheduled to start filming sometime in December in the same area where the heinous acts happened. McLaughlin’s investigation into the murders was particularly interesting as she ended up uncovering more. In particular, just how corrupt the city’s system was. This should add a layer of thriller to the murder mystery movie. It also appears that Ruskin did his homework for the movie. As per Deadline, Ruskin went as far as to track down Cole and McLaughlin’s families. His research reportedly took him deep into when the two journalists first started working on the case. We can therefore expect to see a high level of detail from the Boston Strangler film. The film is still in its early stages and hasn’t started shooting yet. However, the level of talent involved in the project is easy to see. If we were to speculate, 20th Century Studios will want the film to be ready just in time for the Awards Season next year, if not the year after.
