This would explain why GSC Game World just announced its decision to cancel all plans to sell NFTs in STALKER 2.

GSC cancels all NFT plans in just 24 hours

Earlier this week, the developers of STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl confirmed that it was going to auction NFTs that, in a nutshell, would let gamers paste their likeness onto the heads of one NPC in the game. The studio made everything sound like a big deal, describing it as paving the way for us to become “the first metahumans” where all that they were going to do is just scan a select few’s faces inside the game. GSC was well aware that this decision would not come without any pushback. In its initial announcement, the studio clarified that STALKER 2 wasn’t a “blockchain-based game” and that the NFTs were completely optional. GSC even went as far as to post a follow-up tweet to ease fans’ concerns only to delete it just an hour later. Now, the studio has posted a new message on Twitter to tell everyone that it has already canceled “anything NFT-related.”

— S.T.A.L.K.E.R. OFFICIAL (@stalker_thegame) December 16, 2021 Objections to GSC’s NFT plans, and NFTs in general, often revolve around environmental concerns, and how introducing monetization to video games takes away the play and recreation aspect of gaming. The latter is especially concerning when it appears to be the main selling point of companies and their NFT plans, including that of Ubisoft. Ultimately, all the discussion is a moot point now. At least, as far as STALKER 2 is concerned. Unless GSC changes its mind, STALKER 2 is going to release as a single-player title - as it should. Speaking of STALKER 2, you might want to invest in additional storage if you’re gaming on the Xbox Series S/X. According to earlier information, STALKER 2 is going to take up a huge amount of storage space. This is bad news for the measly storage space that’s available on Microsoft’s latest consoles. Thankfully, you’ll still have a few months to save up as STALKER 2 isn’t scheduled to release until April 28, 2022.
