With that said, before becoming the exact opposite of a blockbuster, John Carter was originally a part of a series of sci-fi novels written by the 20th-century writer, Edgar Rice Burroughs. Now, from the big screen, one of the oldest action heroes in the world is set to star in his own video game.

What Is John Carter: Warlord of Mars?

— JC_Warlord_Mars (@JC_Warlord_Mars) March 29, 2021 The new John Carter video game will be named John Carter: Warlord of Mars. It will be a first-person action-adventure title with Tanglewood Games as its developer. The studio is made up of talented individuals who previously worked on Fortnite and Sea of Thieves. FNCPR will be publishing the game with Edgar Rice Burrouhs, Inc, also having a hand on it. Set to release on the PC, John Carter: Warlord of Mars will be set near the end of World War II in 1945. In the game, John Carter is a war veteran. He’ll suddenly find himself transported to Barsoom, otherwise known as Mars, by the Nazis, who has apparently been secretly working on the said teleporting technology. As of the moment, we don’t know the specifics of the story of the game yet. However, it is expected to follow a familiar plotline that’s similar to the John Carter film and Burroughs’ other works. Namely, it will revolve around the story of transporting a hero to a foreign planet and seeing, or rather, playing him as he fights “for the inhabitants of Mars”. But while it is going to be based on the novels, the John Carter game deviates slightly. For example, John Carter was originally an American Civil War veteran. He was not a soldier who fought in the Second World War. According to the press release, the developers have already begun working on John Carter: Warlord of Mars. However, they’ll be taking to Kickstarter starting on April 19 to help raise more funds as they continue developing the game. The developers have already cast actors for the game. This includes David Elliott as John Carter, with Brian Bovell and Kezia Burrows taking on the roles of Tars Tarkas and Dejah Thoris, respectively. Tanglewood Games will reportedly be using Unreal Engine to create John Carter: Warlord of Mars. Expect to hear more about this upcoming title once it launches on Kickstarter on April 19.
