The Brahma Bull paid homage to “one of the greatest pro wrestlers who ever lived” on his Instagram account, fashioning similar sunglasses to “Macho Man” Randy Savage. The Rock then revealed that he would’ve loved to compete against Randy Savage. Unfortunately, as Randy Savage passed away in 2011, this will no longer happen. Savage was a 32-year veteran of the wrestling industry and ended up winning the WWF World Heavyweight Championship twice and the WCW World Heavyweight Championship four times. At one point, the flamboyant wrestler was considered as much of a draw as Hulk Hogan was in his prime. True to this, Savage headlined multiple pay-per-view events for the WWF and the WCW, including WrestleManias 4, 5, and 8. Despite dominating the wrestling headlines throughout the 90s and early 2000s, both the said wrestler’s paths never crossed. For most of the 90s, Savage was signed with the WCW. On the other hand, The Rock wasn’t exactly the most popular wrestler in his earlier years. It wasn’t until his heel turn, which was inspired by Hulk Hogan, that Dwayne Johnson evolved from the oft-booed Rocky Maivia to the fan-favorite people’s champion, The Rock.

It’s a shame that The Rock never had a chance to face off against one of his idols. It would’ve been awesome to see two of the greatest champions wrestling had ever seen go at it, in and outside of the ring. The unrealized bout between Randy Savage vs The Rock is easily one of the greatest missed opportunities in wrestling history. But, who knows? Maybe something good will come out of this. After missing out on the chance to fight one of the all-time greats, maybe he’ll be far more willing to give a similar chance to others hoping to book a fight against him in the future. We know for sure Roman Reigns will have his shot eventually, but what about Logan Paul? We know a match-up between the Maverick and The Rock will break records just as much as the much-teased fight between Paul and John Cena at WrestleMania 39.
