Tom Henderson revealed that Ubisoft is planning to release the new Ghost Recon title in 2025. We do not have any details about the upcoming title aside from the planned release window. If it holds true, then the six-year gap between the mainline entries will be the longest in the series. Ubisoft has not yet announced a new Ghost Recon title and what Henderson shared is just a rumor at best. So, take it with a huge pinch of salt as the situation at Ubisoft is a bit volatile at the moment.

— Tom Henderson (@Tom_Henderson) January 16, 2023 Ubisoft is currently in a downturn with the company reportedly canceling three unannounced titles and delaying Skull and Bones yet again. The developer has canceled games that it thinks players do not want in a bid to cut costs by $200 million over two years. The French game developer is also looking for potential mergers or buyers. However, interest in the beleaguered company hasn’t been warm, with its proposal being “laughed at”. It does make some sense for Ubisoft to lean on its marquee franchises in a bid to turn the company’s future around. A new Ghost Recon title, if done well, would do wonders for the company. Breakpoint, the last entry in the Ghost Recon series, was very divisive and wasn’t as well received as 2017’s Wildlands. Fans have been questioning Ubisoft’s intentions with the series after Breakpoint’s release. Players also criticized the game for having a feature related to NFTs and called the move a cash grab. Hopefully, Ubisoft would do something similar to what made Wildlands a successful title. Breakpoint was widely criticized for having a vastly empty open-world environment while fans loved the NPC interactions and factions of Wildlands. A Ghost Recon spin-off is being developed at Ubisoft titled Ghost Recon Frontline. The game is a first-person battle royale shooter game. The spin-off will be a free-to-play title that looks similar to Call of Duty Warzone. Ubisoft is also working on another Tom Clancy title with the Splinter Cell remake. The game will reportedly be retold for new audiences. The Splinter Cell remake does not yet have a release date as of writing. As of the moment, only Assassin’s Creed: Mirage is slated for a release this year. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and the unnamed Star Wars open-world game may be coming in 2024 at the earliest.
